English Competition

On Saturday and Sunday, 14 to 15 Fabruary 2009, there was English competition for SMA students in West Java. It was held by FKPPI cooperated with LIA Bandung, There were 45 teams participated in this event. SMAN 5 Bandung sent two teams. Team A were Mimah, Pilar and Sabilla and team B were Aghniadi, Fadhila and Rifkiansyah. Both of them entered the semi finalists. Unfortunately, team A was beaten by SMA Pribadi so only team B from SMAN 5 went to the Final with two other teams from SMA Pribadi, SMAN Purwakarta, and SMAN Sumedang. The Five teams tried hard ro become the winner. We know the first is the best but we are proud of our students although they only got the third place, because they did their best.Congratulation! The first and the second places were from SMA Pribadi

SMAN 5 Bandung

5 senior high school is a state-owned school. It’s located at Belitung street Number 8, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. It has been granted by the government as one of the best senior high schools in Bandung, and legally accredited by the government. 5 senior high school which is commonly called SMAN 5 also has a lot of achievements in a various kind of field. The Location of SMAN 5 is in a very strategic place. Being in the centre of the town made it’s easy to get to SMAN 5. But not just being in the strategic place, SMAN 5 also got such cool air there, and a lot of big trees along the Belitung street that make it so comfortable to be there. And In front of the school we can find such a large and leafy park there. SMAN 5 has 30 classes, a Physic laboratory, a biology laboratory, Chemistry Laboratory, Language Laboratory, Audio Visual Room, Computer Laboratory, teacher’s room, Library, a Mosque, and some compliments room.


SMAN 5 is famous for its quality of education, and the creativities of the students. They have created some school Bazaar which is very success, it’s proven that the students of 5 senior high school is very competent at the creativity stuff.
One other thing that is really famous from 5 senior high school is its extracurricular. This thing has become an identity for each student who become the members of it. The 4 biggest extracurricular are ‘Keamanan’ (Security for students), ‘Rancang Bangun’ (building Plan),Cabaret, and Vocal Group.

English Teachers in SMAN 5 Bandung

Dra. Ida Yusridawati Y. is the strictest of all. She manages her own class with her own style. Although she is strict, her students love her and always expect her to be in the class. The students call her Mommy because she is one of the oldest teachers at SMAN 5 Bandung

Dra. Asnahniar M. is really calm and confident in teaching her classes, though her basic knowledge is not English. She always shows her eagerness in improving her English skills.


Dra. Yeni Gantini, M.Pd is an energetic teacher. Her basic knowledge is not English, but she managed to finish her master degree in English. She keeps pursuing knowledge to improve her skills not only in English but also in managing curriculum.


Mala Betty R.,S.Pd. is one of the students' favorites because of her kindness and friendliness to the students. She is a keen teacher in improving her skills in mastering English.



Drs. Agus Kurnia, whose nickname is Akur, is creative in managing his class. He is always seemed to be in a rush going to class and doing his work. His students love his British Australian accent.


Beni Amran,S.Pd. is a new and diligent teacher who always comes early to school. He is seemed to be serious and rarely smiles. He is also good at badminton.

Drs.Herman Benyamin is the newest english teacher in SMAN 5 Bandung. He moved here on July 2007. He's a friendly man and always smile to everybody. He's a creative and inovative teacher. He always ask for more information from the seniors


Agus Kusmawan,S.S. is a part-timer. His students call him “USHER” after the singer’s name. Students like him for his method that he uses in class.

English Community

Nadya from SMAN 5 Bandung has been choosen as one of three presenters from Indonesia in Mega Conference Junior 2006 in ITB. There were 18 countries joined this Mega Conference. Indonesia is presented by Montage Bandung. SMAN 5 Bandung is one of 8 members of Montage Bandung at the time. Nadya is really our pride until now although she has finished her study in SMAN 5 Bandung.


These are the three presenters from Montage Bandung. They are Nadya from SMAN 5 Bandung, William from SMA St Angela and the next from william (sorry I forgot her name) is from SMAN 3 Bandung.

Students of SMAN 5 Bandung have a lot of extra curricullar activities that they do after school. One of them is Five English Club or FEC. We often organize 'Anual English competition' for Junior High School Students. The competition consists of : Speech Contest, News Reading Contest, Story Telling, English Knowledge and others. They also participate in some competitions held by other schools or institutions. They surely won the contests mostly the first place.
